Many businesses in Phnom Penh run everything from a Facebook page, and it works up to a point. The question is what you lose by having nothing else. Here is an honest comparison, with no invented statistics.
What a Facebook page does well
- It is free and quick to set up.
- Your regular customers already follow you there.
- Messenger makes it easy to answer questions.
- Photos and daily posts show that the business is alive.
Where a Facebook page falls short
- You rent, you do not own. Your page lives on someone else's platform, with their rules and their layout. A domain name and a website are yours.
- Information gets buried. Prices, menu or opening hours posted three months ago are hard to find under newer posts. A website keeps them in one stable place.
- Visitors from abroad search Google first. Tourists and new expats look on Google and Google Maps before they arrive. A clear website gives Google something precise to show.
- Every question becomes a message. "How much?" and "Are you open?" take your time. A page with prices and hours answers them before they are asked.
What Google says about local ranking
Google explains that local results depend on three things: relevance, distance and prominence. On prominence, Google writes that it includes "how many websites link to your business and how many reviews you have". A website gives your Business Profile a destination, gives other sites something to link to, and gives each of your services its own page that can match a search.
The best answer: both, linked
- Keep your Facebook page and Instagram for daily life and community.
- Put the stable information on your website: prices, menu or treatments, hours, address, booking.
- Link the website from your Facebook page, your Instagram bio and your Google Business Profile.
- Send booking requests from the website straight to WhatsApp or Telegram, where you already answer.
When a Facebook page is enough
If almost all your customers are regulars who already know you, and you do not want more visitors from outside, a well-kept Facebook page can be enough for now. A website starts to pay when you want people who do not know you yet to find you, trust you and book.
